Crete Direct and Sabbaticals - Long-term Rental
The word "sabbatical" is taken from an ancient word and an
ancient concept. From the Greek Sabbatikos, which itself came from the old
Hebrew Shabbhath (to rest), the Romans developed the word into Latin,
Sabbaticus, and then finally Sabbatical from the old English Sabat (Sabbath)
for the day of rest.
We offer that place to rest and relax for a while.
We do not mean a holiday – which sometimes can be more stressful than the routine from which we seek to escape – but a period of recharge and reflection. Many of our clients come here for three or four months, to complete a personal project, to recover from exhaustion or illness, or to explore the feel of living here. Or perhaps simply for a Sabbatical: Time Out.

Our Traditional Houses are all equipped and fully furnished as permanent homes. These are not holiday houses. Neither are they located in holiday areas but in real Crete amongst real Cretan people and the genuine way of life - often only fleetingly glimpsed from a holiday apartment or hotel. If you are thinking of taking time out here, working on a book, a painting, a project of some sort then we can help you with any local support you may need. All our houses have telephone connections and access to the internet.
For those who are stressed or burnt-out after an exhausting period of work, then to live and relax here for a while may be therapy enough. Recovering from hospital however may need the practical or psychological support of first class local medical facilities and in such cases we can introduce you to The Gavrolakis Clinic in nearby Chania, one of the foremost private clinics on Crete, with full international-standard facilities for medical care.
Our prices are based on monthly inclusive rentals tailored to the period of your stay. Please therefore ask us for a specific quotation appropriate to your circumstances.
